Different Types of Plumbing Fixtures and Their Functions

Plumbing is any system which carries liquids for various uses through a series of physical processes. The processes involved in the plumbing include the transportation of liquids from one place to another, utilization of such liquids, and removal of materials like sludge, wastes, etc. Various parts of the plumbing are involved in these processes. The following discussion considers some of the critical components of the plumbing, which are widely used.

Pipe fittings are used to connect the different parts of a plumbing system. Pipes are typically manufactured out of steel, copper, or bronze. Drainage pipes are placed inside the pipes. There is a difference between potable and non-potable plumbing.

The difference between a potable water supply and a non-potable supply is that it can carry both liquids. Thus, it is used in places where it is necessary to transport both liquid and non-liquid wastes. In addition, non-potable plumbing systems do not have disposal facilities. They can only carry potable water.

Septic tanks are used to store sewage waste. This type of plumbing system is used to dispose of sewage and to carry the sewage waste to the septic tank. This system ensures that the septic tank is always filled up with enough water supply to handle the entire load. This is very important because if there is a lack of adequate water supply, the risk of septic failure increases.

One component of the plumbing system which is frequently ignored by many people is the drainage system. The drainage system connects the house drain and the washing machines. It is often forgotten because of the simple fact that these fixtures are always located in the kitchen or in the bathrooms. But even if they are present, you should know how to properly maintain them to ensure that they work effectively. And aside from that, these fixtures are also very expensive, which makes it difficult for most homeowners to replace them.

Some of the commonly used materials in the plumbing fixtures include cast iron, copper, brass, steel and stainless steel. Cast iron is considered the best material for pipes because it is durable and resistant to corrosion. On the other hand, stainless steel is considered as the best choice for copper plumbing fixtures because it is also resistant to corrosion but does not look so good. If you want to buy one of these plumbing fixtures, make sure that it is made from high quality material. For example, cast iron will corrode and rust easily but cast iron plumbing fixtures are still preferred by many people because of its classic design.
